Bill Lack has been a resident of the Macalister Irrigation District for over thirty years and has been involved in many aspects of the dairy industry, particularly in training and education. He is currently an instructor and workplace assessor at “Farmtech education centre” at East Sale and lives and operates a small beef enterprise near Heyfield. He has also been a director at the Macalister Demonstration Farm for the last three years. Bill was raised on a family mixed farming enterprise in North East Victoria. On completion of secondary schooling, he completed a Bachelor of Agriculture Science at Latrobe University and a Diploma of Education. After University, hel was appointed as Agriculture Instructor at Sale Technical School and was responsible for the Farming Trades Apprentice training program. In 1987 he made the transition to what was then known as East Gippsland TAFE and continued in his role as apprentice instructor and co-ordinator until September 1993. Over the next two years, Bill was involved in working on local dairy farms, driving trucks, Livestock Co-ordinator for the Gippsland Farmer newspaper and various other jobs as he established his own property at Heyfield. In 1996 Bill was appointed as Gippsland Manager for RAB Australia. This involved visiting and working with many dairy farms throughout Gippsland and other regions in relation to their breeding programs and Semen purchases. In 2004, Bill returned to East Gippsland TAFE (now known as Advance TAFE) and has been involved in running the AgVet Chemical Users Course as well as Livestock Husbandry Units and Pastures and Feeding with Certificate 3 students. He also conducts the Certificate 2 program at Sale.
