The Advanced Diploma of Dance (Teaching and Management) aims to provide an accredited training program and vocational outcomes for a person to:

- Obtain employment as a teacher of dance to 5-18 year olds in an established dance teaching environment, in selected dance styles.

- Establish and manage their own or mange someone else's dances school/studio business.

- The teaching of the 15-19 year old group is appropriate to the Advanced Diploma level as the student will have demonstrated competency at the basic classical ballet level, at the intermediate level and at the advanced level in chosen dance styles.

Career Opportunities

Obtain employment as a teacher who can competently teach the 5-14 year olds in the dance styles chosen and to assist in some cases to teach the 15-19 year olds. Establish and manage their own school or studio business or manage someone else's dance school/studio business.

Entry Requirements

Participants enrolling in the Advanced Diploma of Dance (Teaching and Management) must be physically able to undertake the qualification. To enter the course participants should:

- Have at lease 2 years dance training experience in one or more dance styles.

- Experience as an assistant dance teacher.

- Be prepared to undergo an audition and an interview. The audition takes into consideration the following criteria: movement, physical fitness, coordination, musical skills, creativity and attitude. The interview assesses literacy and oral skills, motivation, teaching aptitude and experience as teaching assistant, maturity, self confidence, attitude and presentation.

Duration & Delivery

2 years full time.

Assessment

Participants are assessed via completion of required tasks and a demonstration of skills, eg. Written and verbal assignments, practical work, classroom participation, projects and/or written tests.

Practical Placement

Students will be able to gain practical placement with local Dance School and also organise a dance production.

Qualification

The Advanced Diploma of Dance (Teaching and Management) is a nationally recognised qualification.

Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC)

RCC is an assessment process that involves re-assessment of a previously gained accredited qualification that may no longer be recognised by official bodies. With your current industry experience, the RCC process will involve an assessment against the current qualification. Contact the teaching department for further advice on RCC or request an information brochure from the Customer Service Centre.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

RPL is an evidence gathering assessment process where an individual's skills and knowledge in a specific vocational area are assessed against a unit or units of a nationally accredited training package. Thus enabling them to gain part or all of a formal qualification. Contact the teaching department for further advice on RPL or request an information brochure from the Customer Service Centre.
