Career Opportunities
School students can use this qualification as part of their VCE - ENTRE score. Non School students gain base level entry to the Equine Industry in the following areas breeding, performance/competition, equine health, retail or event management.
Entry Requirements
Students require a moderate level of physical stamina, strength, agility and coordination in order to meet the physical demands and be safe when handling horses and performing stable management duties. In addition, a range of skills are required in writing, reading, speaking and calculating that would enable an individual to:
- read and interpret conditions of employment
- provide information to animal health care professionals
- establish, maintain and develop relationships with team members
- maintain vaccination and drenching records
- perform simple calculations related to drench dosage rates by body weight.
Duration & Delivery
This course is delivered part-time over 2 years through a combination of on-line tutition and practical sessions.
Assessment
Participants are assessed via completion of required tasks and a demonstration of skills, eg. Written and verbal assignments, practical work, classroom participation, projects and/or written tests.
Practical Placement
Students attend 8 practical sessions per year at an equine practical provider located across Victoria. In addition, school students complete 40 hours structured workplace learning during 1st year, organised through their school.
Qualification
The Certificate II in Equine Industry is a nationally recognised qualification.

Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC)
RCC is an assessment process that involves re-assessment of a previously gained accredited qualification that may no longer be recognised by official bodies. With your current industry experience, the RCC process will involve an assessment against the current qualification. Contact the teaching department for further advice on RCC or request an information brochure from the Customer Service Centre.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
RPL is an evidence gathering assessment process where an individual's skills and knowledge in a specific vocational area are assessed against a unit or units of a nationally accredited training package. Thus enabling them to gain part or all of a formal qualification. Contact the teaching department for further advice on RPL or request an information brochure from the Customer Service Centre.
