Career Opportunities

This course will give you the opportunity to work in a variety of areas within the Electrotechnology industry and related industries. It also provides you with opportunities for articulation or recognition of knowledge and skills in allied vocations.

Entry Requirements

Applicants are chosen and employed in industry and must be 15 years of age. Education at years 11 or 12 would be an advantage. A contract of training is issued by the Office of Employment Training and Tertiary Education and must be signed by both the employer and employee.

Duration & Delivery

This 3 year part time course involves 1 day per week over 40 weeks at Fryers Street Campus or 8 blocks of 5 days at the Docker Street Campus each year. Further study is undertaken in the fourth year on a part time basis to qualify for an Electrician¿s Licence.

Assessment

The knowledge and skills gained throughout the course will be checked against those set out by the nationally endorsed industry competency standards and the completion requirements that make up the qualification.

Qualification

The Certificate III in Electrotechnology Systems Electrician is a nationally recognised qualification.

Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC)

RCC is an assessment process that involves re-assessment of a previously gained accredited qualification that may no longer be recognised by official bodies. If you have an earlier qualification and have current industry experience, the RCC process will involve assessment of your prior qualification against the current qualification and if successful will result in a full or partial upgrade to the current qualification. Contact the teaching department for further advice on RCC or request an information brochure from the Customer Service Centre.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

RPL is an evidence gathering assessment process where an individual's skills and knowledge in a specific vocational area are assessed against a unit or units of a nationally accredited training package. RPL is specifically for applicants who have skills and knowledge in a vocational area that may enable them to gain part or all of a formal qualification thus recognizing their non-formal and informal prior learning. Contact the teaching department for further advice on RPL or request an information brochure from the Customer Service Centre.

Pathways to Further Study

Students who successfully complete the course may go on to study the Certificate IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
