Scholarships
The NCDEA, thanks to its sponsor DeLaval, is able to offer an annual scholarship for the most outstanding dairy farming graduate to study internationally. The $10,000 scholarship enables the winner to study in Europe to gain skills and experience in progressive dairying techniques.
DeLaval also provides a $5,000 scholarship to study in New Zealand to be awarded to the runner up. The annual recipients are announced at the annual NCDEA Course Completion Function.
2007 Scholarship Winners
Jarrod Ziemer
The $10,000 Dux award sponsored by DeLaval was presented to Jarrod Ziemer from Northcote who was acknowledged for leading his peer group in the pursuit of excellence in academic accomplishment and personal growth. Jarrod’s win provides him with sponsorship for a dairy focussed study tour of Europe within the next 12 months. The award was presented by Mark Brummel the Managing Director of DeLaval Australia.
Jarrod, who works on a dairy farm near Trafalgar in Gippsland is thrilled with the sponsorship and is looking forward to taking the study tour around April or May next year. “I love dairy farming and this award will help me gain the knowledge and skills towards becoming a share farmer and eventually owning my own dairy farm,” he said. Jarrod spent all his school holidays at his grandparent’s dairy farm at Tallygaroopna, near Shepparton, and admits he always wanted to become a dairy farmer. “As long as I can remember it’s what I wanted to do,” he commented.
Narelle Savige
The Bill Pyle Outstanding Achievement Award was presented to Narelle Savige from Moe for outstanding achievement in the pursuit of excellence in academic accomplishment and personal growth. Narelle received $5,000 in sponsorship for a dairy focussed study tour to New Zealand in the next 12 months. The award was presented on Bill’s behalf by Baw Baw Shire Mayor Cr. David Balfour.
Narelle was surprised with her win and is planning to visit New Zealand in May next year. Narelle, who works on her parent’s dairy farm, was recently successful in gaining the Young Dairy Farmer Development Program position for Gippsland. The position is an industry project run in conjunction with GippsDairy, Target 10, the VFF and the Gardiner Foundation.
Narelle will facilitate the connection of young people with the dairy industry and programs via events, support to regional committees, statewide projects and tours for young people. “I am looking forward to working both with young people and encouraging them to enter the dairy industry and with existing farm workers encouraging them to gain accreditation for their skills and knowledge,” said Narelle.
