Cups on Cups off course successful in north
A very successful "Cups on Cups off" course was held recently by the National Centre for Dairy Education Australia (NCDEA) in Swanpool near Benalla in conjunction with Fonterra.
Fonterra Milk Supply manager, Durham Prewett, encouraged and organised the 16 participants, the venue and with the support of the host farmer family, put together a most successful course over the two days. The course was facilitated by veterinarian Rod Dyson.
All but one farm in the Swanpool area was represented which is testimony to the commitment and interest in the course. NCDEA Industry Trainer, Wilf Reuther, attended both days to assist with co-ordination and to ensure participants receive appropriate accreditation for this course.
The course is designed to assists milkers gain a better understanding of milking techniques and mastitis issues, and tips on how to improve work practices in the dairy to minimise mastitis and BMCC problems back on the dairy farm.
Participants were extremely positive in their feedback about this course. The involvement from dairy factories, in this case Fonterra, and Murray Dairy and the NCDEA, is a great example of a co-operative industry-wide approach to resolving a particular issue.
Plans are being made to offer more Cups On Cups Off courses across the region in the immediate future. For more information on CoCo courses contact the NCDEA on 1300 0 NCDEA (1300 0 62332).
