Diploma of Food Science & Technology (Dairy) in 2010The NCDEA is now taking enrolments in the Diploma of Food Science and Technology (Dairy) program but there are limited places remaining for this program in 2010. There is also an opportunity to commence some study in 2009 for the 2010 program. NCDEA in e-learning showcase How industries are integrating E-learning into their work places will be the theme of the E-learning Showcase and Exhibition to be held on Thursday 24 November 2009 at the Sofitel On Collins, Melbourne. 2010 Short Courses The NCDEA Werribee will again provide dairy technology short courses in 2010, commencing in February with Cheese Theory and Practice. Other short courses on offer in 2010 include, Practical Cheese Making, Farmhouse Cheese, Cheese Sensory and Judging. Each of these courses will offer a different aspect to cheese making or understanding of cheese production and processes. Dairy Australia Seminar Dairy Australia is hosting a free two day cheese making seminar in Melbourne on Wednesday 4th November. Hard and soft cheese manufacturers and retailers as well as researchers and post graduate students with an interest in recent advances in cheese making should plan to attend. Specialised training for National Foods NCDEA has recently been involved a number of specialised training courses delivered to the dairy industry. The courses were developed specific to the needs of the companies concerned, after consultation and design against the desired performance improvement outcomes. Programs included training of laboratory staff in testing techniques, training of staff in specialised cheese making and grading skills, as well as courses for updating staff skills or knowledge specific to dairy technology and processes. Werribee accommodation refurbished The NCDEA Werribee Campus has student accommodation available for students studying in the Diploma of Food Science and Technology (Dairy) on “block release” and for students attending the many short courses conducted on campus. Over the past four months these facilities have been significantly refurbished. Gold Medal Win for Werribee NCDEA cheese The NCDEA team at Werribee have done it again, winning another gold medal for their blue mould cheese at the 13th Melbourne Specialist Cheese Show held at Crown recently. NCDEA cheese technician, Janice Roberts, and Administration Officer, Shirley Steward, organised an exhibit at the cheese show and as always they had plenty of interest in their products, even making it onto the ABC News on the Sunday night. Webinars enhance training for students The NDCEA has successfully introduced new web-based seminars – ‘Webinars’ in course delivery to students in the Diploma of Food Science and Technology. “Elluminate” webinars support and enhance student learning while reducing time-off-the-job and travel costs. Call Shirley Steward on Honour Boards The NCDEA is pleased to announce the Gilbert Chandler College honour boards have been transferred to the safekeeping of the NCDEA Werribee. Once refurbished and updated, these boards will be located and displayed on campus in Werribee. The boards display the names of students who gained high overall achievement during their studies at Gilbert Chandler College (now the NCDEA), and several boards dating as far back as 1939.
