Clynton Theodore

Born on a farm but raised in town, Clynton Theodore hadn’t experienced farm life until his mid-teens when he did some farming classes through his secondary school, Colac College. In Year 10 he completed some work experience with local dairy farmers, Phil and Kaye Harris and decided farming was the career for him.

“I did a School Based Apprenticeship in Years 11 and 12 with the Harris’ which involved one school day and weekend work for the two years,” says Clynton. At the end of Year 12 Clynton gained an apprenticeship, worked full time and attended classes one day a week to obtain the Certificate IV in Agriculture with the NCDEA’s Western District Campus at DemoDairy in Terang.

“The DemoDairy facilities are great,” said Clynton. “We had access to industry experienced and specialist teachers and guest speakers and could learn how things like pastures work.”

Now undertaking the Diploma of Agriculture, Clynton has firm career plans. “The Diploma is two years of part time study and involves a lot more work outside of class but its very relevant to my dairy farm work. You learn about something, such as calving, in school then you experience it later on the farm,” explains Clynton.

“I want to become a farm manager, then a share farmer and one day own my own farm. It’s long term but I want to be share farming by the time I am 35 years old,” said Clynton.
