“The Certificate IV in Food Processing (Dairy) is assisting me to increase my knowledge... it will open lots of avenues where I can branch out into other areas within the dairy processing industry, such as quality assurance.”
Renae, a Laboratory Technician at Murray Goulburn in Cobram, noticed the NCDEA Certificate IV in Food Processing (Dairy) course being advertised and asked her Training Co-ordinator if she could apply. Renae suggests that; “Although I have a Bachelor of Science and I work in laboratory I really don’t know anything about milk production... when you test bacteria you don’t need to know how the milk gets from the cow and made into butter, chocolate milk or yoghurt, but in my role I really should have an understanding of milk production processes and equipment so I can assist the production team in identify problems and finding solutions.”
As the NCDEA Certificate IV in Food Processing (Dairy) is delivered flexibly and part-time Renae is able to continue with her job while gaining her qualification. “I love the fact that the course is part-time, flexibly delivered with some residentials as I can still keep my job and make money while I gain my qualification. When I need to attend residentials at Werribee it’s great as I can stay on campus where all your needs are catered for”, Renae explains.
“The subjects offered by the Certificate IV are definitely relevant to what I need to learn in increasing my background knowledge of the dairy processing industry.”
Renae contends that one of the major advantages of the course is the fact that you have the opportunity to meet and network with people from other food processing companies, “There are people in the course from such companies as Bega Cheese and Fonterra and during our class discussions we get to share production methods, so you get to know how other companies are do things.”
